The 2015-2016 NBA season has kicked off and boy, I am not excited. I love playing basketball, I love college basketball, but I just don’t care for the NBA. Well that is not exactly true, I care about 2:00 minutes left in the fourth quarter of a close game, but I don’t care how we got there for the past 46 minutes of basketball.
The really sad thing is I used to enjoy watching NBA basketball. In the late 80’s and 90’s, basketball was the best team sport around. They played together, the ran plays for each other, they moved, they hustled; they played defense all as one symbiotic unit. It was a beautiful thing to watch. That is why college basketball is still fun to watch, because they play as a team.
Now days it is isolation, dribble, dribble, dribble, drive, dribble back out, dribble, dribble, dribble and then shoot a contested shot. When it goes in only 5% of the time, we cheer like someone just turned dirt into gold. When they miss, we just assume no one was open and they had to take a shot. So to make the season interesting let’s have some juicy story lines that might happen. Remember, these are fakes stories but hopefully can come true.
Cleveland is only 20 and 20 and trades for Kobe Bryant.
How awesome of a train wreck would that be? You would have Kobe and LeBron on the same floor and 3 other guys that would be afraid to shoot, let alone even touch the ball.
A team in the western division (Denver Nuggets/Suns/Mavericks) misses the playoff with a 40-32 record.
However, over in the east the Celtics get in with 32-40 record as a 7th seed. I know everything is cyclical, but the east has been bad for a while. I mean we are on like a 15 year bad streak. I get they have one good team every year, but I mean the conference as a whole shows just how poorly the GM’s are in the East.
The Knicks and Nets finally gave up and put their best players on one team…..and still missed the playoffs.
I keep hearing that basketball mecca is Madison Square Gardens. I agree, it was in the mid 90’s. But the only decent basketball is a few college showcase games and tournaments.
The TNT game time crew of Kenny, Shaq, Ernie and Charles has an on screen pie eating contest for charity.
Ernie or Kenny, please get the canola oil and have the producers ready to chant lard ass as Charles and Shaq step up to the pies.
The NBA D league finally gets to show it’s games on national TV.
This is where the talent is at. This is where the games are really good, fast pace, exciting and some quality team ball. Don’t believe me, catch some highlights on You Tube or if you are lucky enough to have a D-League team in your city, go to a game. You will have one outstanding time. Enjoy the season and let me know when the last two minutes are happening. I will turn in it on then and still be forced to watch 30 minutes of professional basketball.
