Boning Your Animal In The Field

I hear this complaint almost everyday during hunting season. We had a great time hunting, but it was so much work dragging our animal to the pickup. My question is always why did you drag your animal to the pickup? Overview Hunters have it ingrained in their minds that they have to gut their harvested animal and then drag it whole to their transportation. It is very difficult lifting a whole animal minus it’s guts into the back of the pickup. Then hunters generally want to hang their animal. The idea is that it will be easier to skin the animal, which it is, and perhaps age the meat. Aging the meat can be argued either way. However, most hunters do not have a way ...

Fantasy Football: The Secret To Legalized Gambling

If you are like me and don’t want to get drunk intentionally during Sunday football, I have a game for you. Take a drink every time you see a Fan Duel or Draft Kings commercial advertising the next big winner could be YOU!!!! By the end of next Sunday you will A.) Swear off drinking for the rest of your life B.) Call in sick to work at 4:00pm on Sunday or C.) Sign up for one of the sites, enter in a weeks’ worth of pay and be divorced by the following Sunday. In other words, nothing good really will come of this game, but you can say to yourself, ” I didn’t intentionally get drunk, it just happen because of the commercials.” I ...

Thrill Of Lying In Sports

I learned something this year and that is to never hang out with Jason Pierre-Paul of the New York Giants and Fireworks. That is a bad, bad combo. So I have been kicking around ideas and I think I am going to do a two part series of the problems in sports and how it is a reflection of society general. This week I want to discuss the issue of lying and the thought process of innocent until proven guilty even though you know you are guilty. Next week will be centered on the ESPYs and the circus it will be. So I welcome any thought or feedback and remember. I am going to generalize a lot so if it doesn’t apply to you DON’T TAKE ...

My Love Hate Relationship With College Football

The college football is a wonderful game. I love to watch it at 9:00am on Saturday and then end my night with the 5:00pm game of the week if you will on ABC. Hell, I might even catch some PAC-12 action or watch Hawaii vs. whomever all the way till 11:00pm. It gets me ready for Sunday. However I do have few issues with the game itself, the setup and the B.S. that is shoveled through our TV’s week in and week out. I figure the best way to cover this is to check them off my list, love-hate style. Love: The college football atmosphere inside and outside the stadium. The fans, the cheerleaders, the band, the fight songs, the mascots, the whole works. If ...

The Perfect Fantasy Football League

I don’t know about you, but I play fantasy football. It is the only fantasy sport I play. It is simple and easy, set your team once a week for a Thursday through Monday and reset it the next week. It isn’t like baseball or basketball, it is just one game a week and easily manageable. I play in different leagues all having little quirks here and there but I am here to write about my league. The one I set up and run. It is by far the best league EVER. Not because I am bias but because of the rules we have set up. So I am here to share it with you and you most definitely can use it. So you got ...

Football Gambling Rules

With football season rapidly approaching I figured I would lay out my own personal rules of betting in case you have gambling problem like me and your strategy isn’t working. I have learned these guidelines from other gambling junkies, bookies, sports book workers, and just plain old dumb luck types. I lived in Nevada for five years. What a state! It takes you a solid good six months to a year of living there to block out mentally that there are slot machines in your grocery store. And I am not talking about mom and pop grocery stores; I am talking about chain grocery stores. Crazy thing about it, people would be playing them. Before you even think of accusing me as being one, I ...

Best Situational QB’s

Lets be honest here, the quarterback is the most important position on a football team. Since we were kids, we always had the most athletic and usually the tallest kid as QB on our playground team. So I figured I would do a list of the best situational QBs that have ever played the game of football. Top Fantasy QB: Aaron Rodgers. The guy is fantasy football players dream. High completion percentage, low interceptions, can throw deep with accuracy, capable of 4 touchdowns and 350 yards a game. Basically if you are playing against him in fantasy football, you feel you could have a 50-50 chance of winning. Runner UP: Randal Cunningham. They guy did it all, ran, passed, never got sacked, just chucked and ...

A Better Option Than Uber

My friend Corey B and I came up with a brilliant idea back in 2002. We were sitting around drinking beer and watching sports while reading the bottom headlines cross the tv. We kept seeing sports stars getting arrested for doing dumb ass things. Driving either drunk or high with girlfriends or escorts seemed to come up often. We kept coming up with the same question, “WHY?” Why are you driving drunk or high at fast speeds down the freeway? Why are you driving drunk or high with your “friend” who happens to be a “girl” while your wife is at home with the kids? Why would someone with the amount of money you have not get a cab? Remember these are pre Uber days. ...

The Thrill Of Sports: Baseball Playoff Thoughts

I must have missed the memo that was sent out to everyone this year about the playoffs. If you got it, would you please forward it to me. I guess someone had the wrong home address, wrong email address, or the wrong fax machine number. The memo must have informed us all about the playoffs being played in the lunch hour/afternoon (depending on where you live) and why. Look I plan my year around sports watching as much as possible and the NCAA tournament has my morning, lunch and afternoon times covered for the year. Most of us work a job that A.) Doesn’t allow us to access the games on our computer or B.) Makes it blatantly obvious when we are watching it on ...

Fantasy Football Week #6

Week #5 is in the books! Time to readjust the roster for week #6. Monday night’s game between the Steelers and Chargers was probably the best Monday night game I have every seen. NFL officials are really struggling this season especially in Monday night games. Apparently the officials messed up the clock. The Steelers had another 18 seconds to play with that they did not get. Thankfully the Steelers did not lose because of poor officiating like the Lions! Bye weeks are the Buccaneers and Rams. Don’t be the guy in your league that starts a guys sitting at home. I know I say this every week, but it’s worth repeating. This week’s mismatches are Broncos vs. Browns, Panthers vs. Seahawks, Saints vs. Falcons, and ...

The NFL Arrest Streak Now Stands at 80 Months

In sports, there are legendary streaks that were accomplished by great players and admired by everyone. However, there are also streaks that are quite embarrassing and somewhat hilarious. The NFL has a very bad streak of football players getting arrested by the authorities and the record stands at 80 months. Yes, this is not a joke. NFL players have a streak of arrests that has been going on for 80 months straight. It sounds pretty outrageous but the NFL seems to be doing a good job in keeping this streak alive and well since 2009. NFL players can’t seem to shake off this crazy streak of getting arrested. One of the most popular arrests was quarterback JaMarcus Russel who was charged for the possession of ...

Baseball Playoffs

Begrudgingly enough, we are going to take a break from football for the next couple of weeks. We are going to talk about the only time of season to watch baseball on your TV: Playoff time. I enjoy baseball at the stadiums but to sit at home and watch a game on TV just screams beer belly and most likely a significant other yelling out you. Baseball is meant to be watched live or during playoff time. So since the NL playoffs are set. Let’s make some fun prediction about who advances and who goes home just a week after everyone else did. Wild Card Round Pit vs Cubs in a one game showdown to see who advances. I wish somehow this game was to ...

Fantasy Football Week #3

Week #2 is in the books and fantasy footballers are looking at how to improve their team and score the most point in third week of the season. Let’s look at some key injuries and matchups. The biggest injury of week #2 is Romo. He is out for at least eight weeks. The Cowboys brought in Matt Cassel to back up Brandon Weeden. Do you dare start or trade for Weeden against Atlanta? Especially without Dez Bryant and possibly Jason Witten. Not only NO, but hell NO! Drew Brees, quarterback for the Saints looks like he will be playing against the 0-3 Panthers. After getting smacked for the last two weeks, if you have Brees this may be a good week to start him. For ...

Week #1 Recap

The regular season is finally underway and the first week is in the books. Some of the things that happened were expected and some of the things that happened in the first week defied logic. What can a fantasy football player take away from the first week? Short answer, nothing. One week is not a proper gauge to make any rash decisions. Do not panic! Relax and do not put much emphasis on what happened in first week. As the season progresses and certainly by week six patterns will start to evolve and we can start making rational decisions based on fact and trends. In the first game of the season all teams are a work in progress. Players are getting to know their new ...

After The Draft

On Saturday NFL teams had to cut down to a 53-man rooster. However that does not mean that most teams have finalized their roosters. Deals will be made throughout the week that can still impact teams significantly. This must be a horribly nerve wracking process for players on the bubble. How awful would it be to make the 53-man rooster and still be cut after the Saturday deadline. Ouch! Generally speaking most leagues have probably completed their drafts by this point in the season. However, don’t think for a second that you are done looking at the league and how the transactions over the next couple of days will affect your fantasy team. A player that gets cut from one team, may get picked up ...

ESPYs

I love sports. I love watching sports, I love playing sports, I love sports stories, I love sports fans (most of them, actually the more realistic ones rather than the unrealistic ones i.e. see most Raider fans, most New York and Boston Fans and any SEC football fan.) As I sit here and watch the ESPYs I have been choked up at least twice. Once for the Lauren Hill story. If you didn’t watch it, do it. If it doesn’t get you choked up a bit you are either: A. A cold hearted person, B. Never participated in any group activity or C. Dead. Having said all that, then why am I so irked at the ESPYs this year? Oh yeah, now I remember! Because ...

A Barrage of Sports Topics

US Open Recap: If Jason Day would have somehow come through and won the US Open after having a share of the lead going into Sunday, it might have been referenced every time in this column from now until I missed my picks for the The Open. Great efforts J. Day. You are my new favorite golfer. But I really feel bad and yet don’t feel bad for Dustin Johnson. I feel bad because no one wants to three putt, especially since the first put was to win & the second putt was to force a playoff. He had not three putted all day. Man that was brutal! Now if you believe the stories that he was banging tour player’s wives, hopped up on coke and still managed ...

Fixing Tiger and Betting the Odds

Golf, what a funny game. You chase a white ball that you hit around a beautiful green course that usually makes any person that has a lawn at home jealous. You can be in sand, water, trees, desert (depending where you live) sun, wind, rain and most likely, some sort of alcoholic drink. Adding these factors up, minus the wind and rain, and you had a fun day of golf. I play golf; I would play 5 days a week if I could. I play for the score, I play for the gambling (why worry about the score when you got $20 on a putt), I play to hang out with the fella’s and get away from life for a while. And that is where ...

The Thrill Of Sports – Why the NBA Finals are so bad!

Why are the finals so bad this year? Anyone who says that these NBA finals are great this year must live in Cleveland, the Bay Area or would enjoy watching 30 and over softball as a past time. I mean come on, these are professionals we are watching and they are playing like elementary kids during rec. season. How many more times do I need to watch LeBron James slowly bring the ball up, pass it, run to the block, wait for the pass back, while four other players just stand around? At least Mozgov and Dellavedova are willing to try and get involved and take a shot. JR Smith, Triston Thompson, James Jones pass the ball around like it was a positive pregnancy test. ...
